You may have heard a few things about the new 2021 BMW G80 M3. More specifically, you may have heard about its giant front grille. Today, we are going to tell you all about it and how some people have reacted to this massive change in the new BMWs. BMW recently released some images and details on their new G80 M3 and M3 Competition. The new car comes with an inline six-cylinder engine making 480 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. The new M3 also comes with its M Servotronic steering with a variable ratio. Perhaps the most noticeable change in the new BMW is its front bumper with a Giant, frameless kidney grille.
BMW's Reasoning:
For decades, BMW's have been recognized for their iconic front kidney grilles. For generations, BMW's front grilles have been fairly similar in shape and size. Many people have gone ahead and upgraded or replaced their kidney grilles to improve the looks of their vehicles. When comparing the older grilles to the one on the new BMW, anyone can notice the massive difference in size.
So why make the change? BMW claims that the new grille allows for optimum air inflow for the car's larger air intakes. Another benefit mentioned of the larger grille is that it improves the supply of cool air entering the engine bay, helping the performance engine stay cool. Do you think it will actually make a difference in performance?
Consumer Reactions:
So far, we have heard many harsh reactions about the new bumper and grille style. Some people have joked about the recent changes in grille size by making memes like the one below.
While some have made jokes, others have taken advantage of the negative reactions of consumers by making their own concepts of aftermarket bumpers to replace the factory BMW bumper. Some concepts are based on an original design that was going to be used on the new BMW but didn't make the cut. We have a feeling that many people will replace their OEM bumper with an aftermarket bumper once they are available.
We think that BMW's new bumper is probably the most controversial bumper in recent car news. Let us know what you think of the new BMW and its unique features in the comment section below!
